Bowling

Wheeee!

Wheeee!

I love Patrick’s little imagination.  Last weekend, he set up a bowling game for himself.  He took a few empty water bottles, lined them up just right, and with an enthusiastic, “Wheeeee!” rolled a ball toward the line up.

I’m guessing he remembered the day when our friend brought over his Wii.  Patrick had loads of fun “bowling” and playing “tennis” with the boys.

It was just plain adorable.  Aside from the fact that he was bowling at 7:30 in the morning.

Laundry vacation- OVER!

The washer and dryer arrived on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the cord for the dryer wasn’t long enough to stack them.  And it looks like (from my search through the web) that they don’t make 8 foot cords.  Huh.  One would have thought that this would have happened to someone else by now and they would make longer cords.  But…they don’t.  I guess we are the first people on the planet with a 23 year old home that wants to stack their washer and dryer.  So….they are not stacked.  :-( For now.  We will be bribing our good friend the electrician to add a receptacle closer to the dryer unit soon.

As for washing and drying, I am AMAZED at how clean our clothes are.  It sickens me to think of how we used to wander the earth with semi-dirty clothing.  Patrick’s socks (you know, the ones his father and grandma let him walk outside in) are so WHITE!  Our dish towel stains are virtually gone.  I love, love, love the new machines!  I can pack a ton of clothes into a load, it uses less soap and water.  Our extra large quilt from our bed even fit!  Thank you LG!

In addition, they are super quiet and Patrick loves to watch the cycles.  Since they are front loading, he sits and eats his snacks and watches the laundry spin.  Actually, during that first load, we ALL sat around watching the washing machine spin.  Fun! In a crazy, cukoo sort of way.

I did laundry for two days straight.  I took a break only to sleep and take Patrick to gymnastics.  And it is finished.  Two weeks of built up laundry, clean in two days.  Including sheets, rugs and towels.  Our other poor machines would have taken at least a week to complete the same task.

So now we (the new machines and I) rest.  Until next week.

Laundry free! (for now)

Our washing machine broke last weekend.  While the rest of the country was Superbowl partying, I was mourning the loss of an old family friend.  Well, maybe not mourning.  I have secretly been wishing for this to happen for months now.  It is old.  Really, really old.  It died a slow death. Basically screamed at us to fix it as it grunted and groaned through each load.  Towels and denim were especially hard.  But we didn’t listen.  We just turned up the volume on the TV.

Our dryer isn’t much better.  It takes FOREVER to dry anything.  And sometimes the heat part, you know the thing that is supposed to do the drying? It doesn’t turn on for some reason.

We had a Sears technician come on on Tuesday to look at the washer.  It was going to cost $200 to fix it.  No thanks-we’ll get a new one.  Yippee!

So….we are getting a NEW SET!!!!  I say “we” but I really mean “me”.  My husband hasn’t touched the laundry for months.  I am so excited!!  I feel like a little kid at Christmas.  I remember my mom, long, long ago, wanting a Dustbuster for Christmas.  I thought she was crazy. Why in the world would you want a cleaning tool as a gift?  Now, I totally get it.

I did my research online first, and decided on an LG.

#1  The price is right

#2  It will fit in our laundry “closet”

#3 It can be “stacked” – giving us more much needed space (we’ll have room for a freezer!  I can’t wait!)

We went to the Home Depot on Thursday to look at the set and then order it.  Walked out with a very expensive piece of paper and the promise of delivery on Tuesday.  Five days away!  No laundry till Tuesday?  Will we manage?

Not being able to do laundry has its perks.  I feel like I’m on vacation.  Generally, there is ALWAYS something dirty that needs cleaning.  Now, I’m wearing underwear that I haven’t seen in years.  In addition, I’ve realized that not only do I truly have favorite undergarments (do guys have favorite underwear?), I have been unnecessarily taking advantage of the washer and dryer at my fingertips for many years now.

I’ll ask myself, “Is it sort of dirty?  Well, a little.  It’s a bit wrinkled.  Okay…I’ll wash it!”   But these past few days it’s more of nostalgic college dorm-life rules.  “Does it have a stain?  Does it smell?  No?  Then it’s okay to wear again!”

So here we sit. With dirty clothes, towels and sheets, anxiously awaiting the new machines that promise to make my laundry routine quicker and more efficient.  And as much as I’m enjoying my laundry vacation, I am so looking forward to Tuesday night, when I get to try out the new set.  Isn’t that disgusting?

I have now officially turned into my mother.

Our musical son!

Patrick is a musical being.  He just is.  He loves anything to do with drums, guitars, pianos, etc.  During our garage cleansing a few weeks ago, we found an old microphone. And Patrick knew just what to do with it. What talent!
